Founder of the United Front Party (UFP), Nana Agyenim Boateng has slammed Akufo-Addo’s led government over its intension to implement E-levy policy in the country.
According the UFP leader, Finance Minster, Ken Ofori Atta and the NPP government want to rob Ghanaians with the E-levy policy.
“Ken Ofori Atta and the government wants to use the e-levy to robe the citizens” he stated on Oyerepa Breakfast Time. Tuesday, January 11, 2022.
“All the development ex-president Mahama borrowed money for are physical, so what has Ken Ofori Atta, Akufo-Addo and Bawumia done with the taxes they collected for the past 4 years”. He asked.
Nana Agyenim Boateng asserted on the show that the E-levy is unconstitutional.
Background
The Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta announced that the government intends to introduce an electronic transaction levy (e-levy) in the 2022 budget.
The proposed levy, which will come into effect on 1st February 2022, is a charge of 1.75% of the value of electronic transactions. It covers mobile money payments, bank transfers, merchant payments, and inward remittances. The originator of the transactions will bear the charge except for inward remittances, which will be borne by the recipient. There is an exemption for transactions up to GH¢100 ($16) per day.
