Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that the government’s proposed 24-hour economy policy will be formally presented to Parliament soon.
Speaking on Tuesday, March 11, during the presentation of the 2025 Budget Statement, Dr. Forson reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to the initiative, which aims to enhance economic productivity by encouraging businesses to operate around the clock.
“The Mahama-led NDC government is committed to the pursuit of the 24-hour economy policy,” he stated, emphasizing its potential to create jobs, drive sustainable growth, and maximize the use of infrastructure and resources.
The 24-hour economy has been a key topic in recent political discourse, with proponents arguing that it will boost productivity across various sectors. Dr. Forson assured Parliament that necessary measures and incentives are being developed to facilitate the smooth rollout of the policy, particularly for businesses willing to operate beyond traditional hours.
As part of the government’s broader economic transformation strategy, he noted that the policy would serve as a catalyst for industrial expansion and investment.
He urged Parliament to support the initiative once formally presented, emphasizing that its success would require strong collaboration between the public and private sectors. A detailed framework outlining the policy’s implementation is expected to be submitted to Parliament for further deliberation soon.
