Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, has announced that Samuel Adom Botchway will be reassigned from his role at the Births and Deaths Registry.
This decision comes in response to the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), which declared a nationwide strike over Botchway’s appointment as Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.
During a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on February 11, 2025, CLOGSAG raised concerns over politically exposed individuals being appointed to key civil service and local government positions. The association argued that Botchway, who took office on February 12, 2025, fell into this category and subsequently scheduled a nationwide strike to commence on February 20, 2025.
However, in a statement on Friday, February 14, Kwakye Ofosu confirmed that the issue had been resolved.
“In the spirit of cooperation and understanding, we are pleased to announce that the matter has been resolved, and there will be no nationwide strike by CLOGSAG,” he stated.
He also highlighted that the precedent of appointing non-civil servants to such positions, a practice set by the previous government, remains a subject of legal proceedings.
“The precedent set by the previous administration of appointing a non-civil servant to this position remains an ongoing legal matter,” he noted.
Ofosu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to collaboration and responsiveness.
“The Government of President Mahama remains committed to being a listening administration as we work together to reset our nation,” he added.
