Residents and traditional leaders (Nananom) of Gomoa Abrekum in the Gomoa West District are appealing to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, President Mahama, and other security agencies to address the ongoing disturbances caused by landguards. The disturbances have been triggered by a contractor working on the Kasoa–Cape Coast Highway, allegedly taking over their land for sand winning.
Gomoa Abrekum, a community of over 1,000 residents, faces several developmental challenges, including open defecation along the seashore, the absence of a market complex, a CHPS compound, and inadequate road infrastructure.
Addressing a press conference, the youth leader of Gomoa Abrekum, Seth Kobena Krampah Arhin, alleged that the contractor working on the Kasoa–Cape Coast Highway has been extracting sand from community lands. However, according to him, some individuals have diverted the royalties into their private pockets and are using landguards to intimidate landowners and traditional leaders.
He therefore called on the IGP, the President, and relevant security agencies to intervene immediately to prevent a possible violent clash between the youth and the landguards.
Meanwhile, some aggrieved residents also lamented the lack of toilet facilities, a proper health centre, a market complex, and other basic social amenities, which they say have made life unbearable. They are urging the authorities to come to their aid.
