A gold dealer, identified as Awal, has been shot and killed by unidentified gunmen at Konongo Low Cost in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The incident happened on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at around 8:15 p.m., as Awal was returning home from work.
According to Samuel Baiden, Assembly Member for the Amerfa Kyekyewere Electoral Area, the attackers trailed the victim to his residence before opening fire on him. The assailants allegedly fled the scene with a bag believed to contain money and gold.
Speaking to Citi News on Thursday, August 14, Mr. Baiden urged the government and security agencies to step up security measures in the area to curb the rising spate of violent crimes.
Police investigations into the killing have been launched.
