More than ten thousand Gold Coast Fund customers in the Ashanti Region are threatening to vote against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming Ghana General Elections.
These customers had their deposits locked in the defunct Gold Coast Fund Management since 2017.
While some customers did receive partial payments before the 2020 elections, many are still owed their full deposits.
In a press conference held in Kumasi on April 6, 2024, Ashanti Customers, led by convener Charles Nyame, announced that they have given the NPP government, currently led by Dr Bawumia, a two-month ultimatum to release their locked-up funds.
“We have given Dr Bawumia and his NPP government up to 30th June 2024, if our deposits are not paid fully, we’ll vote massively together with our families against NPP. This time around we’re not going to beg them. If they fail to pay our deposits, we’ll campaign vigorously against the NPP to lose the 2024 polls.” Charles Nyame stated.
According to him, the locked-up funds have brought severe hardships on all the over 60,000 customers nationwide and it’s about time they let the NPP government understand their discontentment.
He notified that the NPP before the 2020 elections paid part of the deposits which influenced customers’ decision to vote for the party, however, this time around they’re demanding full payment of their deposits before the set date, or else they will vote against Dr Bawumia.
