Renowned Ghanaian musician Ohemaa Mercy has urged the nation’s leaders to reject the legalization of homosexual activities, despite growing advocacy for its acceptance.
She firmly believes that homosexuality is contrary to God’s will and warned that embracing it would have far-reaching, detrimental consequences for the country.
In an interview with 3FM, Ohemaa Mercy shared her personal experiences of counselling individuals struggling with homosexuality, encouraging them to seek divine intervention and abstain from the practice.
She views homosexuality as a taboo influenced by ungodly spirits, aimed at destroying lives.
“For me, where I am standing in the spiritual side, you can’t control it. Anytime I meet young ladies and gentlemen that share their problems with me, especially with this, they open up to you. I have a lot of calls. And you could see that the person is not of him or herself. I will never allow that.
“It [homosexuality] is something that God hates. And if you are listening to me and you are going through that, you need the hand of God. You are not of yourself. I will never stand on the fact that they need us to get them close, to help them get out. But the fact that they want us to put it on the bill to accept it will not help this nation. It will actually take off the face of God from Ghana and incur God’s wrath,” she warned.
Meanwhile the Anti-LGBT+ Bill is still pending approval from parliament as the case against it is yet to be heard by the Supreme Court to determine its eligibility status.
