In a bid to encourage voter turnout, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, the head of the Training Department at the Electoral Commission, has assured members of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church that skipping church to vote on December 7 will not incur divine wrath.
The Seventh-Day Adventist Church had petitioned the Electoral Commission to change the date for the upcoming 2024 general elections, which falls on a Saturday and conflicts with the Sabbath—a holy day they’ve dedicated to the worship of God.
Responding to the petition in an interview with Kwesi Parker Wilson on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Dr. Quaicoe revealed that the parties have accepted that the election should be held on December 7.
“Let me put on record that in 1996, we voted on a Saturday. I am sure that one day will not change anything. We received their petition. We made a proposal to change the date based on the constitution, but the parties disagree, indicating we can change the date in the subsequent years.” He asserted.
