Give my husband the punishment he deserves – Assaulted wife tells government

Harriet Amuzu, the woman assaulted by her estranged husband in Ofankor in a case captured on a viral video, has recounted the harrowing incident and called on the government to ensure justice is served.

Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time with Kwesi Parker Wilson, Amuzu said her estranged husband, John Odartey Lamptey, demanded sex from her despite their separation. When she refused, she alleged that he assaulted her, smeared pepper on her private parts, and attempted to force himself on her.

Amuzu revealed that she had previously reported her husband’s abusive behaviour to the police, but no action was taken at the time. She urged authorities to intervene, emphasizing:

“Now the matter is between him and the state, so the government should look at what he did to me and give him the punishment he deserves.”

John Odartey Lamptey was arrested by police on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the family residence in Ofankor. Two of his siblings, Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey, were also arrested for allegedly attempting to attack a female tenant they suspected of recording and circulating the viral video.

All three suspects have been remanded in police custody and are scheduled to reappear in court at the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) Magistrate Court on December 3, 2025.

The Magistrate Court at DOVVSU ordered that the three accused remain in custody while police continue their investigations into the matter.
