GIS Officer arrested over alleged involvement in ammunition trafficking

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has confirmed the arrest of one of its officers in connection with an ongoing ammunition trafficking investigation being conducted by the Ghana Police Service.

In a press release dated January 6, 2026, the GIS stated that Assistant Immigration Control Officer I (AICO I) Ahmed Abdul Samad was handed over to the police at their formal request to assist in investigations into his alleged role in transporting a large quantity of ammunition that was intercepted by authorities.

The Service stressed that it will not shield any officer whose conduct endangers public safety or undermines the integrity of the institution. It assured the public of its full cooperation with the police as the investigation continues.

The GIS further noted that any officer found culpable will face strict disciplinary action in line with the law and established internal procedures.

The Service reaffirmed its commitment to national security, professionalism, and accountability as authorities carry out the ongoing probe.
