Mr. Nyaaba Aweeba Azongo, President of Save Your Liver Foundation has called on Ghanaians to take pragmatic steps to lower their risk of liver diseases such as liver cirrhosis, hepatitis, and Chronic kidney diseases.
He added that the liver is the largest organ in the body, and performs over 500 vital functions daily to keep you alive. It removes harmful toxins from nearly 100 gallons of blood per day as part of its functions.
Speaking at the launch of the Heal the Gut -Save the Liver campaign held at Ghana International Press Center in Accra, He said when the Gut-liver Axis becomes impaired, it affects its ability to filter blood, and immediately begins to allow toxins in the bloodstream a condition called leak Gut this may lead to the onset of diabetes, autoimmune diseases, stroke, heart diseases, chronic kidney diseases, liver cirrhosis, hepatitis and others.
In conclusion, Nyaaba Aweeba Azongo urged the media to join in the Save Your Liver campaign to make Gut-liver Health the number of preventive Ghanaians health culture.
Dr. Nathaniel Quarcoo, a medical consultant used the occasion to advise Ghanaians to be conscious of their liver to avoid any diseases.
According to him, an unhealthy gut lining may have cracks or holes, allowing partially digested food and toxins to penetrate the tissues to benefit it.
He said this may trigger information and changes in the gut’s normal bacteria and could lead to problems within the digestive tract and beyond.
Dr. Quarcoo therefore cautioned the public to eat more local or raw food than processed food.
