Captain John Djabari (RTD), an Ashanti regional NDC vice chairman hopeful has cast a swipe at pastors in Ghana.
According to him, a lot of Ghanaian pastors are not truthful.
His comment is in relation to a statement by Rev Professor Obiri Yeboa, The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana that his( Prof. Obiri Yeboa) job is to support government not opposition party.
“As a moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, it is not my duty to join opposition. No! No !No! No ! It is my duty to help every government no matter which government it is to succeed and I will do my best to help government to succeed and pray for this government that the government will succeed and do better to the glory of God.” The Moderator said.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time hosted by Kwesi Parker-Wilson, Djabari lamented that their party (NDC) has suffered at the hands of Ghanaian pastors.
“The NDC has suffered at the hands of Ghanaian pastors like Otabil, Duncan Williams and the others because these pastors loudly spoke on the economic situation of the country when the NDC was in power”.
He added that these men of God are not saying anything about the economic hardship under the Akufo-Addo-led government because they feel everything is going on well.
“Pastors like Otabil and Duncan Williams have stopped talking because they feel Ghanaians are comfortable”. He said
He urged that the leaders of the churches must be able to speak the minds of their members and that would not mean opposing and that giving out ideas does not mean criticism.
“Supporting government to succeed in telling truth does not mean opposing,” he outlined.
He explained that the opposition party (NDC) gives directions as to what will help develop the nation and the government incumbent should listen to other opinions to improve the economic situation of the country.
“The religious leaders should be consistent, disciplined and true to every government. They should be quiet and support us when we come to power.” He said.
