Media strategist, Kelly Nii Lartey Mensa has asserted that Ghanaian musicians need to throw their weights behind the dancehall musician, Shatta Wale on his rants against the Nigerian music industry over their refusal to support African artists.
Earlier, Shatta Wale used his #FreedomWave performance to bash Nigerians, claiming that he does not need to headline his event with a Nigerian musician in order for it to sell out or be a success.
Shatta Wale went on to criticize the Ghanaian music industry for implying that he would be unable to sell out his own performance. Shatta Wale went nuts and spoke some vile things about Ghana’s music business.
In numerous tweets, he addressed the fact that the Nigerian music industry has refused to support other African artists, but they channel all their energies into promoting only their artists yet they have received support from other African musicians in elevating their music industry.
In reaction to that, Kelly Nii Lartey Mensa has stated that Shatta Wale needs the support of all Ghanaian musicians in addressing these issues which also face the Ghanaian music industry.
Taking to his Facebook, Kelly stated that Nigerian musicians have flooded the digital music space with their “cheap” songs, and since they are the only ones who have people working at the West African franchise for Spotify, Google, and the rest, they have taken over the minds of many people with their songs.
He wrote;
“All GH artistes must support Shatta Wale. One day they will know what their neighbors are doing to stifle GH artistes just because they are the only ones who work at the West African franchise for Google, Facebook, Apple Music, Spotify, Netflix, Fox, MTv, BET, etc. They internationally flood our web with their cheap songs to take over the minds of our people and minimize our own artistes impression within our own demography. They flood our trends with rubbish songs and they think we don’t know.”
