Professionally known on stage as Obibini Takyi Jnr, a Ghanaian Highlife/Afro-pop singer has made a statement that calls for debate.
Obibini Takyi Jnr, born Baah Takyi believes that Ghanaian musicians are more talented than their Nigerian folks.
Arguably, Nigerian artists have taken the world via music, specifically Afrobeats.
Although Ghanaian musicians like, KiDi, King Promise, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, Wiyaa, Black Sherif, and Gyakie among others are doing very well globally but many believe that, a lot needs to be done to catch up with the Nigerians.
However, the ‘Bad Energy’ crooner believes that Nigerians in pecking order don’t match Ghanaian musicians.
He said the only issue has to do with support. According to him, if Ghanaians decide to give massive support to musicians, they will take the world by storm.
He stated that there are a lot of songs Nigerians picked up from Highlife music and fused it with their rhythms. For this, if Ghanaians support artists, they will take the country to the international level.
“..Ghanaians are very talented in terms of music; we know how to sing very well. There are a lot of songs our seniors made that the Nigerians have picked up and fused into their music. For instance VIP’s ‘Ahomka Wo Mu’ and others. Nigerians have realized that those songs are good but here in Ghana, no one cares, we don’t trust ourselves.” He stated in an interview with Oyerepa TV.
