Ghanaian musician and actor, Andy Nii Akrashie, widely known as OJ Blaq, has sadly passed away.
This heartbreaking news has been confirmed by both industry insiders and the Empowerment Worship Center, where he served as a junior pastor.
While the exact cause of his death is still unknown, many speculate that his kidney disease may have played a role.
In 2021, OJ Blaq was diagnosed with this condition and underwent dialysis treatment. Although he seemed to have made a remarkable recovery, his significant weight loss raised concerns among his fans and loved ones.
OJ Blaq was renowned for his distinctive rap style and thought-provoking lyrics in his music. One of his most successful songs, ‘Chale Wote’, became a sensation across the country in 2009. He joined Lynxx Entertainment in its early days, alongside notable artists like Asem, Eazzy, and Richie Mensah, who paved the way for talents like MzVee, KiDi, and Kuami Eugene.
In addition to his musical achievements, OJ Blaq was also a popular actor, appearing in numerous Ghanaian films, including the beloved ‘Suncity’ television series.
Repentance and a new path
Following his near-death experience with kidney failure, OJ Blaq turned towards the things of God.
In an interview after the ordeal, he established that his craft is now channelled toward winning souls for Jesus Christ.
“I am not that guy anymore. God has saved me. I died and God brought me back to life. My old behaviour died with me. I am now a new creation”.
He released a couple of gospel songs including, ‘Have Your Way’ and many others.
He also embarked on evangelism and preaching to people about his newfound way of life.
