Hon Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, a public health lecturer from the School of Public Health, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), GIMPA, and Garden City University, a Member of the Ghanaian Parliament, and a serving member of the Parliamentary Health Select Committee, will present at the prestigious 32nd European Congress on Obesity (ECO 2025), scheduled to take place from 11–14 May 2025 in Málaga, Spain.

His presentation will form part of a global gathering of experts and institutions committed to addressing one of the most pressing health challenges of the 21st century, obesity.

Dr. Agyemang will present his study, “Stakeholders’ Perspective on Obesity-Related Intervention in Ghana: A Delphi Study,” which explores how inclusive, stakeholder-led approaches can shape effective and culturally grounded interventions for obesity prevention.

This contribution is timely and significant, given the Congress’s overarching goal of promoting international dialogue on the complex, multi-dimensional drivers of obesity and how best to develop sustainable solutions.

The study’s inclusion in ECO 2025 underscores the increasing global interest in regional perspectives and context-sensitive strategies for tackling non-communicable diseases, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Dr. Agyemang’s research introduces a critical voice from sub-Saharan Africa, highlighting the value of locally informed policy development and the role of community-based insights in shaping effective public health responses.

By bringing together the perspectives of Ghanaian policymakers, healthcare professionals, and civil society actors, the study exemplifies the kind of cross-sectoral collaboration that ECO 2025 aims to promote. The research methodology and its focus on participatory consensus-building reflect the Congress’s emphasis on innovation, inclusion, and real-world applicability.

In his capacity as a legislator and a member of the Parliamentary Health Select Committee, Dr. Agyemang brings a unique blend of academic expertise and policy influence to the global health conversation. His dual role strengthens the interface between research and governance, emphasizing evidence-informed policymaking essential to tackling Ghana’s and Africa’s public health challenges.

Dr. Agyemang’s participation also represents a broader shift in the global health landscape, one in which African researchers and institutions are playing a more prominent role in shaping international health agendas.

His presentation will not only highlight the contextual nuances of obesity intervention in Ghana but will also contribute to the wider discourse on how global frameworks for obesity prevention can be meaningfully adapted to diverse cultural and economic settings.

The European Congress on Obesity serves as a critical platform for knowledge exchange, policy dialogue, and the advancement of public health research. Dr. Agyemang’s contribution stands to enrich this global conversation and reaffirm the importance of regional ownership, stakeholder engagement, and culturally informed strategies in the fight against obesity.
