According to Ernest Afayam, the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Nhyiaeso Constituency, the Ghana Union of Traders Associations (GUTA) should hold Dr. Bawumia accountable for the collapse of their businesses.
GUTA has been expressing concerns about the depreciation of the cedi, attributing its negative impact on their businesses to the decline in value of the local currency compared to foreign currencies.
Currently, the Ghana Cedi has depreciated by over 20% since the beginning of 2024, trading at approximately GHC 14.85 against the US dollar at forex bureaus.
During an interview on the Oyerepa Breakfast Show with Nana Yaw Mensah Joel, Ernest Afayam stated that despite Vice President Bawumia’s promises to transition the country’s economy from taxation to production, he has not been equitable to Ghanaians, particularly traders.
“Is he not the same person who told us he was going to move the economy of Ghana from taxation to production and what is happening today?” “In fact, he has proven that he is the worst Vice President ever with all the attributions as the head of economic team addressing himself as the “Economic Mesiah” who once told Ghana he was going to arrest the dollar and hand over the keys to the IGP” he asked.
He said, Dr. Bawumia and the NPP government need to be ashamed of themselves as they have utterly destroyed Ghana’s economy, leaving the country’s citizens in a condition of extreme misery and despair, whilts engaging in the greatest levels of bribery and corruption.
‘’So where is the economic management team who were responsible for managing the economic affairs of this country and why are they not talking about the cedi again with all the big English and lectures they were given Ghanaians in opposition’’ he said.
Adding that Dr Bawumia and his NPP government has nothing better to offer Ghanaians after putting Ghana at a junk status with all the economic woes which is now collapsing and burying businesses.
