At the New Force Key Policy Launch, Nana Kwame Bediako, founder and leader of the New Force movement, announced his intention to empower Ghana to print its own currency if he wins the presidency in the December 7, 2024 elections.
Cheddar questioned the current practice of relying on foreign countries like England, Belarus, and Switzerland to print Ghana’s currency, citing the need for self-sufficiency.
Cheddar argued that Ghana has the industrial capacity to print its own money, making it unnecessary to outsource this function to other nations.
He emphasized the importance of utilizing Ghana’s resources and capabilities to achieve economic independence and sovereignty. This promise is part of Cheddar’s vision to transform Ghana’s economy and reduce its reliance on foreign entities.
He said; “With all the reserve there is one thing that I would like to add and I know we probably have never thought of it. Why do we buy money? Why do we have to go to England or Switzerland or Belarus to print our money and we fly it or ship it before we have money?
