The New Ghana Social Justice Forum has come out in support of President John Dramani Mahama’s appointment of Mr. Anthony Kwesi Sarpong as the Acting Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The forum has condemned NDC supporters who are calling for the revocation of Kwesi Sarpong’s appointment, labeling them “enemies of the state”.
According to them, Sarpong’s appointment is a step in the right direction for Ghana’s revenue collection, given his impeccable track record in financial management and auditing. “Appointments should be based on merit, rather than political affiliation, and that Sarpong’s expertise makes him an ideal candidate for the role”.
The forum’s stance is in response to concerns raised by some NDC supporters, who claim that Sarpong’s affiliation with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) makes him unsuitable for the position.
They argued that such criticisms are unfounded and misguided, and that Sarpong’s appointment is a positive move towards transparency and accountability in Ghana’s revenue collection.
Yahaya Alhassan, the president of New Ghana Social Justice Forum, praised President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to appoint Mr. Anthony Kwasi Sarpong as the Commissioner General for the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA.
At a press briefing, Yahaya Alhassan hailed the appointment of Mr. Anthony Kwasi Sarpong as a groundbreaking move in the fight against corruption and promotion of transparency in the new Mahama administration.
Alhassan praised Sarpong’s impeccable financial efficiency and expertise, gained from his tenure as Senior Partner at KPMG, as a significant step towards transparency and openness in Ghana’s revenue collection.
Mr Sarpong’s appointment has been hailed as a major development in the fight against corruption, with Alhassan noting that the GRA requires a consummate professional like Sarpong to manage revenue collection efficiently and sustainably.
