Trade Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare has stated that her ministry is working to make Ghana the most competitive manufacturing destination in West Africa.

Speaking at the commissioning of the world’s largest Calcined Clay Plant in Tema, she highlighted the government’s efforts to streamline investment approvals, strengthen the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, and create an enabling business environment.

“The enabling business environment is not a slogan in this administration,” she emphasized. The minister praised CBI Ghana for their $150 million investment in the plant, which has created 400 jobs and is expected to reduce Ghana’s carbon footprint.

“Cement remains the silent backbone of national development,” she noted, adding that the cement industry is a significant contributor to global CO2 emissions. The plant’s use of local clay to produce cement is a game-changer, reducing reliance on imported clinker and supporting Ghana’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 64 million tons of CO2 equivalent by 2030.

The minister commended CBI Ghana for translating Ghana’s climate action commitments into practice, saying, “Ghana’s commitment to climate action is not merely diplomatic language… it is a late obligation our industries must translate into practice.” The plant is attracting attention from engineers, researchers, and investors worldwide, showcasing Ghana’s potential as a hub for industrial innovation.
