The Ghana Police Service’s recent operation, led by the Ashanti Regional Police Command, has arrested 10 suspects and resulted in the deaths of 3 others in a shootout related to banking robberies across Ghana.
This operation targeted a gang responsible for a series of robberies against financial institutions, particularly rural banks.
After analyzing a series of robberies targeting financial institutions, particularly rural banks, the police launched a targeted operation that led to the arrest of 10 suspects and the death of 3 others in a shootout.
The operation spanned several regions, including Ahafo, Western, Central, Eastern, and Ashanti, with towns such as Esereso Adagya, Ejisu Achiaakrom, and Atonsu-Kyirapatre being key locations. The police recovered 14 weapons, including AK-47 rifles, pump-action guns, and pistols, as well as vehicles and mobile phones.
The arrested suspects are believed to be part of a notorious gang responsible for the robberies. Three suspects were shot dead during the operation, while 10 others are in custody. A manhunt has been launched for the remaining suspects who are still on the run.
The Inspector General of Police, COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu, commended the Ashanti Regional Police Commander and his team for their role in the successful operation.
He also thanked members of the public who provided credible information that contributed to the breakthrough. The police are calling on the public to continue supporting them with information to aid in successful investigations .
