Renowned Kumawood actress, Mary Afriyie Forson, has expressed her belief that the Ghana movie industry has experienced a notable improvement in recent times.
Despite fears of a decline in the industry, Afriyie Forson is confident that it is actually on the rise at a faster pace than anticipated.
“The Future of Ghana’s Movie industry is so bright. Although somewhere along the line it was declining as of now, it has risen and I’m happy. I love being an actress.” She stated.
Afriyie Forson spoke with Oyerepa Online during a press conference leading up to the highly anticipated film, “The Catholic Priest: Touch Not My Anointed,” scheduled for release on June 28, 2024.
During the conference, she urged Ghanaians to support “The Catholic Priest” upon its release.
The Actress emphasized that the film delves into themes of religious life and love, urging viewers to watch and contemplate the complexities of life choices and romantic relationships.
The Movie
“The Catholic Priest: Touch Not My Anointed” is a Ghanaian-Christian movie which is said to have taken world cinema by storm.
The highly anticipated movie is about a man (Emmanuel) who wants to become a priest in the catholic church but faces tougher opposition from his Mother, (Auntie Agyeiwaa) and childhood female friend, (Darkoaa) who falls in love with him and wants to have sex with him. Emma’s mother, Auntie Agyeiwaa) wanted him to forgo priesthood and marry Darkoaa but later the Holy Spirit intervened.
It’s produced by Helena Multimedia and Directed by Richmond Afrane. It features Kumawood stars such as Mary Afriyie Forson as Auntie Agyeiwaa, Louisa Adinkra as Darkoaa, Martha Joyce Arthur as Rev. Sister Marian, and Papa Nii as Bishop.
Catholic Priests such as Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Effah Adjei, who serves as the Communications Director for the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi, portrayed the role of Father Andrew in the film. And Fr. Michael Owusu Kwarteng, the Assistant Priest at St. Peter’s Basilica in Kumasi, took on the lead character of Emmanuel.
The promising movie will be premiered on June 28, 2024, at the prestigious SGM Mall in Kumasi.
