The Minority in Parliament has criticised the economic management of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, arguing that many Ghanaians are losing confidence in the current direction of the country and are instead looking to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for steady and proven leadership.

Speaking during the first sitting of the second session of Parliament on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, the Minority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, said the country’s economic challenges require bold and competent leadership, which he believes the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has failed to demonstrate.

“Ghana is crying out for bold, competent and proven leadership, in our view, this administration is not managing the economy with transformation in mind. It is failing to inspire confidence and failing to protect the dignity of our people.” he said.

Afenyo-Markin accused the NDC of relying more on public relations strategies than concrete economic policies, insisting that the NPP has a tested record and a clear roadmap for national development.

According to him, the NPP is not simply presenting itself as an alternative government but as the most credible solution to Ghana’s current economic difficulties.

“The New Patriotic Party is not just another political option; it is the solution Ghana needs, our record speaks for itself. Under President Kufuor and later under President Akufo-Addo, we led Ghana through periods of growth and transformation until the global shock of COVID-19.” he stated.

He added that despite the economic disruptions caused by the pandemic, the NPP government worked to stabilise the economy and restore growth.

“Against all odds, we put Ghana back on the path of recovery, the NDC, unfortunately, offers more public relations gimmicks than sound economic management. The NPP offers a proven blueprint,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin concluded by urging Ghanaians to reflect on leadership choices, stressing that history would judge political actors by what they built during moments of national difficulty.

“History will ask what we built when Ghana needed us most, the solution is here, and the solution is us.” he added.
