The former national chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has disclosed that Germany and several other countries are considering requesting repayment of debts Ghana owes them if President Akufo-Addo signs the anti-LGBT+ bill into law.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance has warned President Akufo-Addo not to assent to the anti-gay bill since Ghana risks losing $3.8 billion in World Bank financing.
In the 5-page document, the Ministry explained that “for 2024 Ghana will lose US$600 million in budget support and US$250 million for the Financial Stability Fund.”
Reacting to the passage of the bill in an interview with Kwresi Parker Wilson, the former Chairman of NPP disagreed with parliament and revealed that countries like Germany and others are threatening to demand repayment of the debts Ghana owes them.
