The newly elected chairman for Ghana Electrical Contractors Association in the Ashanti region , Mr Divine Osei Mintah has called on the government to release contractors money used to worked for the Electricity Company of Ghana and PDS which has become headache to most of the contractors.
According to him, it has been five years now since some of the contractors are having financial stuck due to locked funds invested in the Electricity Company of Ghana which he appealed to the government to pay all companies who have supplied materials to the Electricity Company of Ghana and Power Distribution services because as it stands now, they owe their creditors.
Mr Divine Osei Mintah lamented that, his vision is to help the association to work hard so that they avoid in contributing fire outbreaks in the country.
He disclosed this during the association election to elect new executives for the development of the association.
However, the 58 members who voted out of 71 members also disclosed that, there should be separation of electrical contractors from the building contractors to ensure that, only qualified contractors dealt with electrical installation to avoid fire outbreaks.
Again, some also lamented on the taxes on the imported cables which is not helping their business and therefore called on the government to let them enjoy duty free.
