The Archdiocese of Accra is set to organize a prayer walk to petition President Akufo-Addo to declare a state of emergency on all mining activities in Ghana.
The Environmental Prayer Walk aims to raise awareness about the devastating effects of illegal mining, also known as Galamsey, on the country’s environment.
During a press briefing, Rev. Father Nicholas Aazine, President of Nation Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation, emphasized that mining on river bodies must be halted to assess the damage and allow the land to heal.
He further stated that both illegal and legal mining companies are responsible for the destruction of water bodies, land, and atmosphere.
Rev. Father Nicholas urged the government to move beyond promises and take concrete steps to address the environmental issues caused by mining activities.
The prayer walk is a call to action, seeking to protect Ghana’s natural resources and ensure a sustainable future.
