The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has dismissed media reports claiming that Brigadier General Michael Opoku has been arrested by security operatives for allegedly possessing ammunition.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, and signed by Captain V.A. Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, the GAF said checks with relevant security agencies and investigative bodies had found no evidence to support the claim.
“The Armed Forces can confirm that Brigadier General Michael Opoku remains an active member of the Ghana Armed Forces and is not under arrest for any crime committed,” the statement clarified.
The military high command assured the public that, while the report is false and misleading, any officer or personnel found guilty of criminal conduct would face the full rigours of the law.
The Armed Forces further urged the public to disregard the misinformation and cautioned against the deliberate spread of falsehoods that could undermine confidence in national security institutions.
