The long-standing dispute over the Ga Mantse stool has reignited, with Nii Tackie Adama Latse II filing a fresh legal challenge against the current occupant, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, and the National House of Chiefs.
The latest suit, filed at the Kumasi High Court on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, follows a recent Supreme Court decision that overturned earlier rulings by the Kumasi High Court and the Court of Appeal. Those lower courts had directed the National House of Chiefs to restore Nii Latse II’s name to its register as the recognized Ga Mantse.
In the new legal action, Nii Latse II, through his legal counsel, argues that the removal of his name from the National House of Chiefs’ register was unlawful. He is seeking a court order for his reinstatement as Ga Mantse in the official records.
Additionally, he is asking the court to direct the removal of King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II’s name from the register as the current Ga Mantse.
The renewed legal battle signals that the controversy surrounding the Ga stool is far from over, despite multiple court interventions over the years.
Below are the full reliefs he is seeking:
– A declaration that the expungement or removal of the name of the Plaintiff from the National Register of Chiefs by the 2nd Defendant herein was unlawful, arbitrary, and contrary to natural justice.
– A declaration that the entry of the name of the 1st Defendant herein, KELVIN TACKIE ABIA a.k.a. NII TACKIE TEIKO TSURU II, by the 2nd Defendant herein onto the National Register of Chiefs and/or the Chieftaincy Bulletin as Ga Mantse is wrongful, unlawful, and illegitimate.
– An order directed at the 2nd Defendant to expunge the name and all other particulars of the 1st Defendant herein from the National Register of Chiefs and/or the Chieftaincy Bulletin.
– An order directed at the 2nd Defendant to restore the name of the Plaintiff herein onto the National Register of Chiefs as the Ga Mantse.
– Costs, including legal fees.
– Any other order or orders that the court may deem fit.
