Four illegal miners dead after galamsey pit collapse at Sukuumu
Four illegal miners, commonly known as galamseyers, have reportedly died after a mining pit collapsed at Skuumu, near Gyaman-Nkwanta in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region.
The incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, leaving residents in shock and raising renewed concerns about the dangers associated with illegal mining activities in the area.
Personnel from the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies were swiftly deployed to the scene to support rescue and recovery efforts.
All four bodies have since been retrieved from the collapsed pit and deposited at the Jacobu Government Hospital morgue.
Preliminary information suggests that the leader of the group has been identified as Solomon Amadevor, while the identities of the remaining three deceased persons are yet to be officially confirmed as investigations continue.
