The former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Offinso North District, Haruna Yussif who doubles as a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed his dissatisfaction with girl-child marriage in Islam
It is believed that in the Muslim community most girls are given to marriage in the early stages of their lives and this poses a serious threat to girl-child education.
According to the former DCE, there are some antecedents as to why the girl child in Islam is married off at a very tender age.
In an exclusive interview On Oyerepa Breakfast Show on the topic “Girl Child Education”, the former MCE expressed his displeasure with the lack of education of the girl child, particularly in Islam making them less privileged in our society.
“We all know very well that it is against the laws of our land where a girl is married below 16 years,” he said.
However, chastity is considered one of the most important things in Islam. A good Muslim should be able to guard their chastity until they get married.
By marrying early, a Muslim is guarding his chastity well.
Reacting to this issue, the former DCE believes that most parents are not ready to face that judgment and therefore give their daughters a hand in marriage at the early stage of their lives to avert any judgment from, Allah.
He explained that in Islam parents are ready to give their daughters hand in marriage because they fear the judgment they will face when their children fornicate which the doctrines of Islam frown heavily on.
