Mr. Kwadwo Asante, former chairman of the Ghana National Poultry Farmers Association, has labeled the immediate past Minister of Food and Agriculture, Afriyie Owusu Akoto, as arrogant and disrespectful.
His comment is in relation to the scarce supply and high prices of poultry feed in the country.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Tuesday, Kwadwo Asante narrated how the Agriculture Minister disrespected them when they met him and the President, Akufo-Addo.
” We (poultry farmers) met Nana Addo in Jubilee House years ago and told him there was a shortage of maize. But Akoto stood up and said, “There is an abundance of maize.”
However, “maize in Ghana was scarce despite the introduction of Planting for Food and Jobs, which Akufo-Addo claimed had produced a lot of maize in the country.”
“So I approached him (Akoto) later and his special aide and told them how foreigners (Nigerians) were exporting the maize produced by Planting for Food and Jobs. But he told me that if foreigners are buying the maize, so what?
That statement alone from the minister shows arrogance and a lack of respect because there were some young journalists in our midst.” Mr Asante stated.
He added that the leadership of poultry farmers went to the president concerning the gradual collapse of the poultry industry where he (Akufo-Addo) assured them he will fix the problem within 14 days, but “it’s been 2 years now, and nothing has been done about it.”
