The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana has issued a one-week ultimatum to the Roads Minister, Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, to commence work on the Nsawam-Pokuase road. Failure to comply will result in drivers blocking the road, disrupting traffic between Accra and Kumasi.
According to Mr. Paa Willie, National Chairman of the Concerned Drivers Association, the road is in a deplorable state, causing drivers to spend up to four hours traveling from Nsawam Junction to Pokuase. He expressed frustration over the lack of action from the Roads Ministry, stating that the situation is bringing hardship to drivers.
Mr. Paa Willie suggested reintroducing road tolls, given the suspension of the GHC 1 energy sector levy, to fund road maintenance. He commended President John Dramani Mahama for listening to Ghanaians and suspending the levy, demonstrating good leadership.
Yaw Kwakye, Ashanti Regional Chairman of Concerned Drivers, echoed Mr. Paa Willie’s sentiments, calling on the Roads Minister to take immediate action or step down if unable to perform his duties.
Asonaba Nana Wiredu, National Deputy Secretary of Concerned Drivers, appealed to the government to refine oil locally, citing examples from countries like Iran, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.
He therefore appealed President John Mahama to ensure the Tema Oil Refinery is operational to reduce fuel prices and alleviate hardships.
