Fire Tender Catches Fire While Responding to Call in Tamale

A fire tender from the Tamale Metro Fire Station sustained partial damage after catching fire while responding to an emergency in Sakpaligu, a suburb along the Savelugu Highway in Tamale.

The vehicle, DPT No. FS 450, was dispatched at 9:28 a.m. on Wednesday with an eight-member crew led by Station Officer I Mohammad Gadafi. Around 9:45 a.m., while en route, the fire tender developed a blaze, forcing the driver to steer it off the road and into a ditch.

The crew acted quickly to contain and extinguish the fire, and no injuries were reported.

However, the tender suffered partial damage to the underside of its rear offside axle. A backup appliance from the Sagnarigu Fire Station was immediately deployed to continue responding to the original emergency.

The damaged fire tender has since been towed to the Regional Headquarters for assessment and further action.

Officials warn that the incident worsens the already limited number of operational fire tenders in the region, potentially impacting future firefighting efforts.
