A father is calling for justice after his seven-year-old son was allegedly subjected to severe physical punishment by a headmistress and several teachers over a theft accusation that was later called into question.

Speaking on Oyerepa Afutuo with Auntie Naa on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, the man, a tiller by profession, narrated the painful experience his family has endured following the incident at Apiedu School.

According to him, the ordeal began on May 27, 2026, a day before the Eid-ul-Adha celebrations. While he was at work, his wife called him urgently and asked him to come home.

Upon arriving, he was shocked to find his seven-year-old son, a KG2 pupil, badly injured and struggling to walk.

He said, “I was at work when my wife called me. I became worried because such calls usually make me fear the worst. When I got home, I saw my son badly beaten. He could hardly walk, and his back appeared affected.”

The father said his son later explained that money reported missing in his classroom had triggered the incident. According to the boy, a teacher asked whether he had taken the money, but he denied any involvement.

The father alleged that when the matter reached the school’s headmistress, she concluded that the child was responsible for the missing money.

He claimed the young pupil was subjected to a humiliating and painful punishment. According to his account, older students were asked to hold the child while he was beaten with several canes tied together while being stripped naked.

He explained, “The headmistress came to the class and declared him the culprit. He was beaten mercilessly, and some Class Six students were asked to hold him while he was being punished amidst stripping him naked in front of the students.”

The father further claimed that the child was taken from classroom to classroom, from kindergarten through the junior high school section, while being beaten in front of other pupils as a warning against theft.

He also alleged that the punishment ended with the headmistress stepping on the child’s back, resulting in injuries that affected his posture.

“Other teachers also beat him as he was taken around the school. In the end, she stepped on his back, which caused an imbalance in his body structure,” he stated.

Following the incident, the father said he immediately reported the matter to the police before taking his son to the hospital for treatment. Doctors, he claimed, discovered a dislocation in the child’s hand and began treatment to address the injury.

“At the hospital, the doctor told us that a bone in his hand had been dislocated and needed to be given five tablets of tramadol before it could be corrected because of the excessive pain,” he said.

According to the father, the boy spent about a week receiving medical care. Although some teachers reportedly visited during that period, he said none of them approached the child directly to check on his condition.

“The headmistress never came to see him. Some teachers visited, but none of them went to his bedside to check on him,” he added.

In a twist to the story, the father claimed that after the incident, another pupil admitted to taking the missing money.

“After everything that happened, the student who actually took the money came forward and confessed. It was not my son,” he stated.

Reports shared during the programme indicated that the Ghana Education Service (GES) has taken preliminary action in response to the allegations. The Director of GES, Mrs. Dorothy Opare Baidoo, is reported to have interdicted Mrs. Georgina Boahen, the headmistress of Apiedu School, pending investigations into the matter.

The interdiction is expected to pave the way for a full inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The affected father and his family are seeking justice with the help of Auntie Naa and her team.
