A tragic accident has claimed the life of an Asankragwa-based businessman, identified as Mr. Bonnah, just a day after he moved into his newly completed home with his wife and their two-month-old baby.
The incident occurred on the morning of Thursday, June 6, 2025, at Tanokrom, a suburb of Takoradi in the Western Region.
According to a report, the heartbreaking incident happened around 10:20 a.m. when a timber-laden trailer traveling from Tanokrom toward Fijai lost control. The vehicle veered off its path and rammed into a commercial minibus, popularly known as a “trotro,” which was headed from Takoradi to Kojokrom and carrying several passengers.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as gruesome and deeply traumatizing.
The driver of the minibus, identified as Nkansah Kyerematen, shared a chilling account of the moments leading up to the crash. He reported noticing the trailer reversing uncontrollably as it approached the traffic light at Tanokrom Pipeano. In a desperate attempt to avoid a direct collision, he swerved, accidentally hitting a vehicle behind him.
Despite his efforts, the trailer still crashed into the minibus, leading to the fatal incident that claimed the life of Mr. Bonnah.
The sudden death of the businessman, who had only just begun a new chapter with his young family, has cast a shadow of grief over the Apowa community and beyond.
“All the passengers in my vehicle started running away after the door was forcefully removed by my mate. It was later that eyewitnesses told me one of the passengers trying to escape through the door had been run over by the trailer and killed.”
Connect FM’s Paa Kwesi Simpson, who was at the scene, quickly contacted the Ghana National Fire Service.
The team arrived promptly to tow the trailer and retrieve the body of the deceased.
Family members later identified the deceased as Bonnah, a well-known businessman in Asankragwa.
According to his relatives, he had just completed and moved into his new home at Apowa, accompanied by his newly wedded wife and their infant child, the day before the incident.
He was reportedly on his way to Kojokrom to purchase tiles to furnish the house when he met his untimely death.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital morgue, and personnel from the Sekondi-Takoradi Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) are investigating the incident.
