More than five hundred thousand members of the Ghana National Cocoa Farmers Association (GNACOFA), in Ashanti Region have suspended the sales of their farm produce on the markets nationwide.
The move is to express their grievances over poor conditions of service or welfare and the delay of the farmers pension scheme.
At a massive protest against government over their welfare on Wednesday, December 1 2021 at the association’s Headquarters, Akropong in the Atwima Nwabiagya North of the Ashanti Region, the farmers said government of Ghana has failed to address their welfare problems and measures to ensure the smooth implementation of Cocoa Farmers Pension Scheme.
Speaking to Nana Owusu Bempah, National Chairman for GNACOFA said the association has severally notified the government and COCOBOD officials about their concerns but the authorities have failed to address the issues.
He said, they have began suspension of the sales their farm produce on the various markets across the country starting today 1st December to 30th December, 2021. The move is to express their displeasure against the government and COCOBOD.
He added that, the farmers will boycott the commemoration of National farmers day coming up Friday.
Nana Owusu Bempah added that, they will continue to exercise their displeasure until their problems are resolved.
