EOCO grants Miracles Aboagye GH¢50 Million bail

Dennis Edward Aboagye, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team, has been released on bail by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after being arrested in connection with investigations into alleged financial improprieties at the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).

The former IMCCoD Executive Secretary secured bail on Sunday, July 13, 2026, after several hours of discussions between EOCO officials and his legal representatives. His bail was set at GH¢50 million, with three justified sureties required.

Mr Aboagye’s arrest forms part of an ongoing investigation into suspected financial and procurement-related misconduct at the state institution.

EOCO disclosed that Mr Aboagye, alongside former IMCCoD accountant Gerald Appiah and several other individuals, is under investigation over the alleged diversion, misuse, misappropriation and theft of public funds estimated at GH¢55 million.

According to the anti-corruption agency, the probe was initiated following a petition submitted by the current Executive Secretary of IMCCoD, who requested further investigations into the outcome of a forensic audit conducted for the period between August 1, 2022, and February 2, 2025.

Investigators are examining several suspected offences, including conspiracy to steal, stealing, abuse of public office for personal gain, causing financial loss to the state, misapplication of public funds, obtaining money by false pretences, money laundering and other related offences.

Following Mr Aboagye’s arrest, dozens of NPP supporters gathered outside EOCO’s headquarters in solidarity. The heavy crowd led authorities to deploy police officers, military personnel and national security operatives to maintain order and prevent disruptions to traffic in the area.

The opposition NPP has criticised the arrest, insisting it is politically driven and aimed at harassing members of the party.

EOCO has rejected those claims, stating that the arrest is part of a lawful investigation and assuring the public that all legal procedures will be followed as the case progresses.
