The National Service Authority (NSA) has made a significant move to enhance the quality of teaching in Ghana’s senior high schools.
From now on, national service personnel posted to the teaching field will be required to undergo training to sharpen their teaching skills before entering the classroom.
This decision comes after the NSA observed that personnel without a teaching background often struggle to deliver satisfactory results.
To solve this, the NSA has partnered with the National Teaching Council (NTC) and the Ministry of Education (MoE) to provide the necessary training.
This collaboration aims to provide service personnel with the skills and knowledge required to effectively nourish the teaching and learning process in senior high schools.
“The training will take the service personnel through methods of teachings and shape their teaching skills, so they contribute efficiently to the discharge of their duties”, Executive Director of the National Service Authority, Osei Assibey Antwi told the media at the training of more than 3,000 personnel in Kumasi.
According to the National Service Authority, its focus is deployment for employment to reduce graduate unemployment in the country.
“It’s not only about the knowledge that is being bequeathed to them but there is an opportunity for them to do a distance program and earn a diploma in education which can allow the personnel to continue teaching after service.
“We now don’t want to deploy people to where they’ve not studied”, the NSA boss explained.
Mr. Assibey urged personnel to willingly accept postings, particularly in areas where their services are most needed.
