The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has instructed the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to provide a detailed report on the power system disruption that caused widespread electricity outages in parts of the country on July 29, 2026.

The directive was issued after Dr Jinapor held discussions with major stakeholders in the power sector to evaluate current challenges and review recent developments affecting electricity supply.

In a statement shared on his social media platforms on August 3, 2026, the Minister said the July 29 incident, which led to a major power interruption, was among the key issues discussed during the meeting.

“I have charged GRIDCo to submit a comprehensive report detailing the circumstances that led to the disturbance, the response measures undertaken, and the corrective actions required to strengthen the resilience and reliability of our power system,” he stated.

Dr Jinapor explained that the assessment is part of government’s broader efforts to identify weaknesses within the electricity sector and introduce measures to improve the stability and dependability of power supply.

He reiterated government’s commitment to building a stronger power sector capable of supporting businesses, driving economic development and improving the welfare of citizens.

“Together, we will build a stronger and more resilient power sector that powers economic growth, supports businesses, and improves the lives of our people,” he added.

The Minister’s directive comes as authorities continue efforts to enhance the reliability of Ghana’s power transmission and distribution systems following recent disruptions.
