Suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has filed an application seeking to restrain the five-member committee probing petitions demanding her removal from office.
The suit was filed on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at the Supreme Court.
Mrs. Torkornoo is seeking an interlocutory injunction to halt all proceedings of the committee, pending the final determination of the case.
According to court documents, she is asking the Apex Court to issue an order restraining the committee—comprising Justices Gabriel Scott Pwamang and Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu, former Auditor-General Daniel Yao Domelevo, Major Flora Bazuwaaruah Dalugo, and Professor James Sefah Dziasah—from continuing any inquiry.
The application further requests that Justices Pwamang and Adibu-Asiedu be barred from presiding over or participating in any of the committee’s deliberations.
This follows recent claims by New Patriotic Party (NPP) member Alfred Ababio Kumi, popularly known as Adenta Kumi, alleging that the two justices and Supreme Court Justice Yonny Kulendi were seen discussing Mrs. Torkornoo’s removal at a restaurant.
He further alleged that Thaddeus Sory, the lawyer for one of the petitioners, was also present at the meeting.
Kumi contends that the alleged meeting undermines the integrity and credibility of the inquiry, prompting a petition for the committee’s dissolution.
Additionally, the Chief Justice is asking the court to suspend the operation of the suspension warrant issued by the President under Article 146(10) of the Constitution until a final determination is made on the matter.
The suit, filed by her legal team at Dame and Partners, is expected to be heard by the Supreme Court in the coming days.
