Some farmers in the Ejura Sekyedumase Municipality of the Ashanti Region are complaining bitterly about the hikes in prices of Agrochemicals and fertilizers in the country.
Speaking to the press the farmers disclosed a bottle of a weedicide which was sold at Ghc12 about three months ago is now trading at Ghc45 respectively.
According to them, the high prices of the farming inputs is making it difficult for them to raise farms this year.
The situation they believe can negatively affect food production in the country.
The Ejura Sekyedumase farmers say, their community is the food bank of Ghana therefore if they are unable to raise farms, the country is likely to experience a food shortage.
For this reason, the government should as a matter of urgency reduce the prices of the farm inputs to avoid famine in the country.
The government should subsidize the prices of Agrochemicals and fertilizers for farmers to be able to buy.
