The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has called on the Ghana Police Service to intensify efforts to track down and arrest a teacher at Bole Senior High School who is accused of engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct with a student in the school’s science laboratory.

Describing the alleged incident as “unacceptable and shameful,” the Minister urged the police to ensure the suspect is apprehended and prosecuted, stressing that the case should serve as a strong deterrent against similar misconduct in schools. Reports suggest the teacher has fled to neighbouring border towns following the incident.

Speaking at the 2026 GALOP National School Awards on Thursday, July 9, Mr Iddrisu said the Ministry of Education was closely monitoring the police investigation and expected the case to be handled swiftly and professionally.

“The incident in Bole is unacceptable and shameful. So, the Police, we are watching you and how you proceed with the investigation and how you go further to prosecution to deter that unacceptable behaviour and conduct of a teacher,” he said.

The Minister also instructed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take firm action against all forms of indiscipline in schools, whether committed by teachers or students.

According to him, any conduct that falls below the expected professional and ethical standards must attract appropriate disciplinary measures to protect the integrity of the country’s education system and maintain discipline in schools.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service has suspended the payment of the teacher’s salary after he reportedly failed to report to duty following the alleged incident. The suspect remains at large as police continue investigations.
