The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has disconnected Gomoa Potsin in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region from the national grid after a member of its monitoring team was allegedly injured during an exercise in the community.

The disconnection has plunged a large section of the community into darkness for three days, leaving residents and business operators struggling to cope with the impact of the power outage.

The incident reportedly occurred when an ECG monitoring team visited the community to inspect electricity connections and discovered a faulty electricity meter at a house.

According to reports, the discovery led to an altercation between some residents and the ECG officials, during which one of the staff members was allegedly assaulted and injured.

The subsequent decision by ECG to disconnect the community has sparked concern among residents, particularly traders and other business operators who rely on electricity to operate.

The Assemblyman for the Potsin Electoral Area, Ebenezer Adams, told Nana Ansah that the prolonged power outage is having a serious impact on residents and businesses in the area.

He condemned the alleged attack on the ECG staff and said he was prepared to assist the authorities in identifying and apprehending the individual responsible for the incident.

Mr Adams, however, appealed to ECG to restore power to the community while efforts are made to resolve the dispute and address the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault.

Some residents have also called for an amicable resolution between the community and ECG to enable them to regain access to electricity and return to their normal activities.

They said the prolonged outage is affecting their businesses and livelihoods, with some claiming that they are losing income because they are unable to operate without electricity.

Residents are therefore appealing to the relevant authorities and ECG to intervene urgently and find a lasting solution to the dispute.
