A fitting shop and some properties were destroyed by fire at Nkawkaw Zongo in the Eastern Region.
The fire broke out on Thursday morning, destroying vehicles parked at the shop as well as other assets worth thousands of cedis.
A house nearby was also adversely affected.
Though the source has not been ascertained, victims who could not hold back their tears in an interview with Adom News’ blamed the extent of damage to the Nkawkaw Fire Service.
The firefighters were unable to report on time, according to the shop owners, because their fire tender was not up and running.
They revealed one was dispatched from Mpraeso but it was too late as the damage had been caused already.
They accused the Municipal Chief Executive, Yaw Owusu Addo, their MP; Joseph Frempong and the Reginal Fire Commander of failing to ensure the tender gets the urgent repairs it needs.
The aggrieved residents said only one fire tender serves the whole of Kwawu except for Afram Plains which has a different one.
