The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana and transport operators have urged President John Dramani Mahama to review Professor Frempong Boateng’s report on galamsey and prosecute NPP officials implicated in the report.

Speaking to the media, Paa Willie, President of the Concerned Drivers Association, stated that the NPP has no moral authority to speak on illegal mining.

He cited an incident where Organized labour planned to demonstrate against galamsey on November 10, 2024, but suspended the demonstration due to NPP influence.

Willie claimed that the NPP’s actions demonstrate their involvement in the galamsey crisis, and therefore, Ghanaians should hold them accountable for not addressing the issue during their tenure.

The drivers operators are calling on President Mahama to take action against the illegal mining crisis, which is destroying water bodies, farmlands, and affecting public health.

Yaw Kwakye, Ashanti Regional Chairman of Concerned Drivers, stated that the NPP had the opportunity to stop illegal mining while in power but failed to do so. Therefore, they lack the moral authority to speak on the issue.

Kwakye is urging President Mahama to take immediate action to combat and eradicate galamsey, and to prosecute anyone involved in the illegal activity.

Given the widespread impact of galamsey on the country, Kwakye believes it’s essential for the government to take decisive steps to address the issue.
