Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has advised Alan Kyerematen, founder and leader of the Movement for Change, to retire from politics entirely.
Kyerematen, a former stalwart of the NPP, resigned from the party in 2023 after losing the party’s presidential primaries, citing unfair treatment towards him and his supporters. Following his resignation, he formed the Movement for Change and contested the December 7, 2024, general elections as an independent candidate.
Initially anticipated to be a major challenger to the flagbearers of the governing NPP and the largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC)—Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and John Mahama, respectively—Kyerematen failed to live up to expectations.
Despite being regarded as one of Ghana’s most prominent political figures over the past two decades, Kyerematen was unable to translate his political prominence into electoral success.
Political analysts have noted that his poor performance in the general elections casts doubts on his political future. His results were lackluster, as he secured only 0.28% of the total votes cast, placing him fourth—behind not only the major contenders but also other minor candidates.
In an interview on TV3, as monitored by GhanaWeb, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe expressed his belief that Kyerematen should step away from politics, as it appears to hold no future for him.
“As far as I am concerned, I would advise Alan to walk away from politics. I don’t think he has any future in it,” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe stated.
He further criticized Kyerematen’s decision to serve in President Akufo-Addo’s second-term administration despite harboring presidential ambitions.
“Alan had no business joining President Akufo-Addo’s second term when he knew he had presidential ambitions,” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe added.
