Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has extended his sympathies to traders affected by the recent fire outbreak in Adum, the Central Business District of the Ashanti Region.
The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Friday, March 21, ravaged several shops and properties, leaving many traders devastated.
Visiting the scene on Tuesday, March 25, Dr. Bawumia described the incident as “deeply unfortunate” and pledged his support to those affected. He was accompanied by former government officials and leaders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
To assist traders in rebuilding their businesses, he donated GH¢200,000 and 1,000 bags of cement.
“This support is just a small way to help you get back on your feet. I will continue to stand with you in any way I can,” he assured.
Grateful traders welcomed the gesture, stating that both the financial aid and building materials would help them restart their businesses.
“We have lost everything, but this gesture gives us hope,” a shop owner said.
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, as the community calls for long-term measures to prevent similar disasters.
