The president of the YAFO Institute, Nathaniel Dwamena, has stated categorically that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is an empty suit seeking to be president. Saying if he is elected, he will be just a figurehead operated from behind.
“I will say that Dr. Bawumia is an empty suit that is seeking to be president, and if he is elected, he will be just a figurehead that will be operated from behind because he has already said that he wasn’t having control in this current dispensation and that if we give him the opportunity, that is when he will be able to espouse his own vision to the county.”
He indicated that Dr. Bawumia has been elected by delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and these people are almost two hundred thousand in Ghana; therefore, going to the general election, he has to appeal to the entire Ghanaian population. This is because if we judge his track record, he has failed.
He pointed out that Dr. Bawumia, as a vice president, was entrusted to lead the economic management team by the 1992 Constitution, and he has failed woefully as an economist to that effect.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Oyerepa TV Bernard K. Dadzie, YAFO Institute president Nathaniel Dwamena mentioned that Dr. Bawumia was not able to check Nana Addo to be fiscally prudent in terms of borrowing and spending.
Adding to that, the 2024 elections will be based on the state of the Ghanaian economy, of which Bawumia is part of the establishment steering the affairs of the economy currently in Ghana.
Nathaniel Dwamena further stressed that the once touted economic messiah prior to the 2016 general elections was found wanting to fail to stabilize the economy within 2 years in office, which he promised.”
He is of the view that the 2024 elections will be a replica of the 1979 general elections, where the state of the economy was a key determinant factor.
To Mr. Dwamena, “When we gave him a duty as vice president, we gave him a duty to check our economy for us, and that is what we know him for. But when he came in, he couldn’t even check for his boss’s fiscally prudent discipline in terms of borrowing and spending”.
He added that Dr. Bawumia couldn’t check all those things, and if he is not able to check all those, then how do we come and trust the entire country to him ahead of the 2024 election?
