Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has inspected the ongoing refurbishment works at the Trade Fair, Convention, and Exhibition Centre in Accra.
During his visit on Monday, November 25, 2024, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of meeting the stipulated 8-month deadline for the project’s completion.
Upon completion, the facility will feature a 30,000-seat ultra-modern theatre, specifically designed to support the creative arts industry in Ghana and Africa.
Dr. Bawumia believes that this state-of-the-art theatre will play a crucial role in revamping the creative arts industry, driving growth, and promoting African culture.
The Vice President’s inspection and urging of the contractors to meet the deadline demonstrate the government’s commitment to delivering on its promises and supporting the development of the creative arts industry in Ghana and beyond.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Trade Fair Company, Dr. Agnes Adu, revealed that the upcoming exhibition centre will become a premier trade hub in the region upon completion.
According to Dr. Adu, the project has faced significant delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which brought global activities to a standstill, as well as the challenge of relocating squatters who had illegally occupied the site.
Dr. Adu provided insight into the project’s scope, stating that the refurbishment of the Convention and Exhibition Centre will cover an impressive 20,000 square meters. This expansive space will provide a world-class platform for trade exhibitions, conferences, and other events, cementing Ghana’s position as a key player in regional trade.
