Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene is facing a wave of criticism from the opposition, the New Patriotic Party.
Some NPP members accuse him of spending too much time on social media platforms like Facebook and TikTok instead of tackling serious challenges in the region.
However, the Ashanti Regional Communications Member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Issah Yusif Gaani, has stepped forward to defend the Minister’s approach.
Responding to the accusations on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Gaani argued that rather than being a distraction, Dr. Amoakohene’s use of social media has been a powerful and effective tool for addressing the region’s development needs.
“Dr. Amoakohene is using social media positively,” Gaani stated. “He’s not just posting videos; he’s using these platforms to highlight problems and push for quick solutions.”
He cited recent examples to support his claims, including the fixing of a damaged bridge in the Offinso Constituency and the repair of potholes at the Kumasi Airport Roundabout, both of which, according to him, were initiated and resolved after the Minister saw the issues through social media.

The remarks come after Addo Yaw Harry (Ogyaba), the NPP’s Communications Director for the Western North Region, publicly criticised Dr. Amoakohene, claiming that he had turned his office into a content creation centre for personal gain and was neglecting the region’s pressing issues, such as insecurity and prolonged power cuts.
But Gaani countered that Amoakohene is rather a big headache to the NPP in its stronghold. He said Dr. Amoakohene is a big threat to the NPP in the Ashanti Region; therefore, they’re scared of his work and want to use all means to rubbish the good works, however, it won’t work.
